Electronic legal deposits for doctoral dissertations
Yes, indeed. Depositing PhD dissertations is a legal obligation, and that includes confidential theses. You have to submit a single PDF file of the full text of your dissertation. It will be archived in compliance with the Ministerial Decree of 25 May 2016 on national doctoral degrees (see link for further information in French Arrêté du 25 mai 2016 fixant le cadre national de la formation et les modalités conduisant à la délivrance du diplôme national de doctorat). The introductory pages, title page, affidavit, publications and conference participation, abstracts must conform to AMU's recommendations. These elements are available in Word and LaTeX.
At least one month prior to the defence, please validate the deposit of your dissertation. Then, sign the contract of the online publication and forward it to the university registrar’s office (see link for further information in French contrat de mise en ligne d’une thèse soutenue).
Your thesis supervisor will validate the legal deposit if the deposited version complies with the requirements for long-term archiving and publication.
If the jury has requested amendments in your dissertation, your thesis supervisor will open access to the deposited file and you will have three months to deposit the amended version of your dissertation. In the case of minor corrections which have not been mentioned in the doctoral defence report the period is limited to one month. Then, your thesis supervisor will control your new deposit and will validate it for long-term archiving and publication.
Please, use your student’s login authentification details to access your deposited thesis personal account. Your login and default password (INE in lowercase) is printed on your university registration certificate. You can then activate your account, modify or recover your password from the SESAME application.
Yes, it will. The subjects of defended theses or of theses in course of completion are automatically published on the theses.fr portal. Requests to modify these data are carried out through the portal of electronic legal deposits.
Your thesis dissertation will be automatically disseminated on the intranet after 6 months following the defence, or after the stipulated delay if your thesis has officially been declared confidential. Your dissertation may likewise be disseminated on the internet if you have provided permission to do so, with optional embargoes of 12 or 24 months. It will then be accessible on theses.fr.
You may also archive your thesis yourself through the TEL platform following the defence session and without waiting for the legal deposit procedure to be completed.
Internet dissemination is optional but it is strongly recommended to increase the visibility of your research studies. For best results, please use AMU’s Word style sheet or LaTeX class.
